This slice is for the chocolate fans! And it is sure to be a crowd-pleaser too. Despite the richness from the chocolate, the crushed biscuits and Maltesers provide the crunch and texture. It is simple and quick to make – most of the mixture is made using a saucepan. Even better, the ‘the baking’ is done in the fridge.
90g unsalted butter
1 can (395g) sweetened condensed milk
200g dark cooking chocolate, broken into pieces
250g packet shortbread or sweet biscuits
approx. 130g Maltesers
150g white cooking chocolate, melted
Line a slice tin (18cm x 28cm) with baking paper.
Using a food processor, pulse the sweet biscuits until it is a combination of crushed and small pieces. The small pieces of biscuits add a little bit of texture to the slice.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter with the condensed milk over a gentle heat. Do stir often to prevent the condense milk from catching on the bottom of the saucepan. Remove from heat once the butter has melted, do not allow to come to the boil.
Add all the dark chocolate pieces into the butter and condensed milk mixture. Continue to stir until all chocolate pieces have melted.
Add the crushed sweet biscuits and stir to combine well.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin, smoothing the top.
Scatter the Maltesers over the top of the chocolate and biscuit mixture. Then press these Maltesers down into the soft mixture.
Pour melted white chocolate on top and spread it evenly. It doesn’t matter if the white chocolate doesn’t cover the entire surface.
Sprinkle some drinking chocolate or chocolate sprinkles or grated milk chocolate on top.
Place the tin in the fridge for at least two hours or until the slice is completely cold and it has become firm.
Remove the slice from the tin and cut into small squares or fingers.
Enjoy!
Wow now these look like a tasty treat for wet Sunday mornings… I don’t really need the extra calories but hey Ho..life’s for living right? X
